Classes Offered in Santa Monica Studio
One-Time Class
This is a one-time class for people wanting to experience pottery and ceramics for the first time, or for anyone interested in getting back into it. Great for a date or a family class as well!
In the one-time class, each person makes 2 pieces, one on the table and one on the wheel. The instructor will lead you through the basic curriculum of pottery. The projects made are small to medium sized. The class is one hour long and we give you the option to come back and glaze the pieces on another day (no extra fee, we email you to book) or we may glaze for you.

Wheel Thrown Planter Class
This is a one-time class for people wanting to experience the beginnings of working on the potter’s wheel while making something useful for your home: a flower pot!
In the wheel-thrown planter class, each person makes 1 planter and 1 dish, both on the wheel. The class emphasizes the basics of working on the wheel including wedging, clay prep, a micro-lesson on centering, and steps to make a planter. The projects made are small to medium-sized. The class is one hour long. We glaze the planters for students. Students will choose a color before they leave and pick up the glazed pieces 4 weeks later. Note: it is recommended to take the One-Time Class first but not required.

Monthly Ongoing Classes
Geared towards teaching all of our students the basis of hand-building and throwing. Our ongoing classes are to be considered an extended curriculum in hand-building or throwing. In regards to throwing, we start with the basics which include wedging clay, centering, coning, and starting with basic forms like cylinders/cups, bowls, and slowly progress to taller, wider, and shapely pieces.
Learning to throw is a process and we specialize in beginner or intermediate potters who want to hone in on the building blocks of throwing and perfect them. Handbuilding is all about clay manipulation and table work. We teach our students the basics with techniques like coiling, extruding, slab work, etc. Classes are small and personalized to your experience level. All experience levels are welcome.

Julia
Hello, I'm Julia! I'm thrilled to be a ceramics instructor here at the art studio. Born in 1996 and raised in LA through a Latinx family, my journey began as an artist at the age of 7, exploring oils and pastels before discovering the profound therapeutic qualities of clay. With a background in art therapy, I find immense joy in witnessing my students connect therapeutically through their creative expressions in clay, fostering both personal growth and community within our studio. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive space where learning technique is as important as enjoying the artistic process itself. I invite you to join me in exploring the transformative power of ceramics and discovering the joy of artistic expression here at our studio.

Nicole has always been surrounded by art in all forms. Her artistic background starts with sketching and painting until she started with ceramics in her mother’s first studio. Her interest in utilitarian art and ceramics of different countries like Mexico and Spain, where she lived and studied, led her and her mother to open this pottery-only studio in Laguna Beach.
