About Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence-based mindful movement practice that fosters healing by reconnecting the mind and body in a safe and supportive environment. This practice emphasizes choice, body awareness, and shared power between the participant and facilitator, providing a pathway for restoring a sense of personal agency.

TCTSY can be especially supportive for those navigating challenges such as grief, chronic stress, vicarious trauma, life transitions, or overwhelm. With no prior yoga experience required, the focus is not on perfecting poses but on tuning into your internal experience and making mindful, body-aligned choices.

Why TCTSY?

Developed by David Emerson and rooted in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Neuroscience, TCTSY is one of the most researched and widely practiced trauma-sensitive yoga approaches. Created in collaboration with Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk and the Justice Resource Institute, TCTSY offers participants a powerful tool to navigate trauma and rebuild a sense of empowerment.

About the Facilitator: Courtney Baldwin

Hi, I’m Courtney! As an RYT 500-certified yoga instructor and practicing mental health therapist based in Santa Monica, I bring a unique perspective to trauma-sensitive yoga. I discovered mindful yoga as a way to connect gently with my body amidst chronic illness and have since devoted my practice to cultivating self-compassion, acceptance, and connection for myself and my students.

I’m thrilled to partner with Artime Barro in supporting our community’s healing journey, especially in the wake of the devastating fires affecting Los Angeles. Together, we’ll explore wholeness over perfection and embrace the liberating power of compassionate self-awareness.
